BREAKFAST - Are You Getting Enough?

Does your hectic lifestyle make it near impossible to eat a good hearty breakfast each day?

You wake up in the morning on an empty stomach. Like a car low on gasoline, you need fuel to get you going. That fuel or energy comes from a healthy breakfast.

Eating the first meal of the day, revs up the body's metabolic rate. As a result the body burns calories faster than if the body was deprived of breakfast. Those who regularly eat breakfast will find it easier to maintain their weight.

Breakfast can improve your performance during the day. A Boston study showed that children who started eating breakfast raised their test scores significantly.


Quick Breakfasts
If you are in such a hurry that sitting to eat a good breakfast is not an option, try the following quick breakfasts:
  • yogurt
  • fresh fruit
  • whole-grain muffin
  • Banana sliced into yogurt
  • Banana with peanut butter
  • single servings of whole-grain, low-sugar cereal
  • Oatmeal with fruit (e.g. apples, blueberries)
  • trail mix of nuts, dried fruits, pretzels, crackers, and dry cereal
